Privacy Policy

Last updated: October 5, 2026

The short version

  • Sightseed is a private practice space for one family. No ads, no trackers, no selling.
  • A parent or guardian holds the account. Children never sign in and never type about themselves.
  • We collect only what practice needs: your email and first name, your child's first name and grade, the weekly words and interests you enter, and which words they've answered correctly.
  • When the app reads a word or sentence aloud, that text goes to an AI voice service to make the audio.
  • Want it gone? Email rowancollectivellc@gmail.com and we delete your family's data.

1. Who we are

Sightseed is run by Rowan Collective LLC ("we", "us", "our"). This policy covers sightseed.app and the practice pages behind your sign-in. Any question about it, or any request about your family's information, goes to rowancollectivellc@gmail.com.

2. What we collect, and why

Here is the complete list. There is nothing else hidden in the background.

  • Your account: your email address, your password (kept as a scrambled hash; we never store the plain text), and the first name you give us. Needed to create and protect your account.
  • Google sign-in, if you use it: the name, email address, and profile photo Google passes to us. Same purpose as above.
  • Your child's profile: first name and grade. Used to greet them by name and to suggest an age-appropriate word list.
  • Your weekly setup: the sight words you enter and the interests you type in, like unicorns or soccer. Used to write practice sentences for your family.
  • Practice records: which word, how many correct answers, how many different days they answered correctly, the date a word was mastered, and the last practice date. Used to show you which words are mastered and which still need work.
  • Your parent PIN: a one-way scrambled version of the PIN you choose. We cannot read your PIN.
  • Spoken audio: when the app narrates a word or sentence, that text (which can include your child's first name and interests) is sent to an AI voice service, which returns an audio clip. We keep that clip so the same sentence doesn't have to be generated again.

3. What we do not do

  • No advertising, no advertising or analytics cookies, no tracking pixels.
  • No third-party analytics that build a profile of you or your child.
  • We do not sell or share personal information for marketing, and we never have.
  • No public profiles, no leaderboards, no points, no social features, no comments, and no links out to other sites from inside practice.
  • We do not ask children for information. There is no child sign-in.

4. Who we share it with

Only the companies that help us run the service:

  • our website hosting and database provider,
  • the AI voice service that produces the narration,
  • the email service that sends sign-in and reset messages.

Each is permitted to use information only to provide that part of the service, and we do not give them permission to use it for their own advertising. We do not share your family's information with anyone else. We would respond to a legal request only if we were required to, and we would tell you first unless we are not allowed to.

5. Children's privacy

Sightseed is built for a parent or guardian to run. Only an adult creates an account, and by creating one you confirm that you are the child's parent or legal guardian, that you have the right to make decisions for that child, and that you agree to this policy.

Children do not sign in, do not create accounts, and are not asked to type anything about themselves. The information we hold about a child (first name, grade, interests, and practice progress) comes from you. We treat it as yours to control: you can view it, change it, or have it deleted at any time. We do not knowingly collect personal information directly from children.

6. Your rights and choices

Email us from the address on your account and we will:

  • show you what we hold about your family,
  • correct anything that is wrong,
  • delete your child's profile, word lists, interests, practice records, and cached audio, and close your account.

If you live in California, you can also ask which categories of information we collect and confirm that we do not sell or share it. We do not. We will check that you are the account holder before acting, and we will finish the request within 30 days.

7. How long we keep it

We keep your family's information while your account is open, so practice can carry forward from week to week and your progress history stays intact. If an account goes unused for 18 months, we delete its child profiles and practice records. Audio made by the voice service is not stored by us beyond your browser's temporary cache. You can withdraw consent from the Home page at any time, which immediately deletes every child profile and progress record on your account. When you ask us to delete, or close your account, we remove your family's records. A minimal account record may remain where we are legally required to keep it or where it is needed to prevent abuse.

8. How we protect it

The site is served over HTTPS, so information moves between your device and us encrypted. Passwords are stored hashed. Each family's data is scoped to their own account, so one family's sign-in cannot read another family's children, words, or progress. Settings and weekly changes sit behind a parent PIN. We keep a written security program: access to production data is limited to the account owner of Rowan Collective LLC, we review who has access at least once a year, we use our hosting provider's encrypted storage and backups, and if we learn of a breach affecting your child's information we will email you promptly. We record the date you gave consent so we can show it was given by a parent.

9. Changes to this policy

We will post a new date at the top of this page. If we make a material change (one that affects how a child's information is used), we will email the address on your account before it takes effect.
